Kogi Govt. Inaugurates State Task Force on Primary Health Care Services

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Kogi State, the present administration has inaugurated the State Task Force on Primary Health Care Services. The committee is tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of public health programmes across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held in Lokoja, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, charged members of the committee to collaborate and work diligently towards building a healthier and more resilient Kogi State.

According to the Deputy Governor, the establishment of the Task Force underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people.

“We recognize that healthcare is not just a social service, but a critical component of our state’s development,” he said. “By strengthening our primary healthcare system, we can improve health outcomes, reduce mortality rates, and enhance the overall quality of life for our citizens.”

Comrade Joel emphasized that the Task Force will play a vital role in coordinating and supervising various primary healthcare interventions, including immunization campaigns, maternal and child health initiatives, disease prevention and control, and health promotion activities.

He further assured members of the committee of the administration’s full support and dedication to achieving measurable impact in the health sector.

Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, noted that the Task Force would serve as a platform for inter-sectoral coordination and collaboration. He stated that it will ensure that policies and directives from relevant authorities are effectively translated into tangible improvements in primary health care service delivery across the state.

 

Dr. Adams also revealed plans to establish similar inter-sectoral coordination committees at the local government level to facilitate the grassroots implementation of PHC programmes.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Muazu Musa, expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his leadership and steadfast commitment to the health sector. He urged members of the committee to remain focused and committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Kogi citizens.

The Kogi State Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), Mr. Sani Ibrahim, commended the state government for demonstrating strong political will, strategic foresight, and a firm resolve to transform the health sector.

The inauguration of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care Services is a clear indication of the government’s determination to ensure that all residents of Kogi State have access to quality primary healthcare services. Through this initiative, the state aims to significantly improve health outcomes, reduce preventable deaths, and enhance the overall quality of life for its people.
