Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the state, stating that attempts to politicize the issue will be firmly resisted.
Speaking during a live interview on Arise Television, closely monitored by our correspondent, Fanwo emphasized that all necessary measures are being put in place to combat insecurity. He noted that the government acknowledges the peaceful protests by residents of Aiyegule-Igun Bunu over rising insecurity, recognizing their fundamental right to express their concerns.
He assured the residents that the government is fully on top of the situation and called on communities to play an active role in supporting security efforts, noting that some of the perpetrators may be hiding among them.
The Commissioner disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has given clear directives to security agencies to intensify efforts and work round the clock to apprehend the criminals behind the recent incidents. He stressed that the situation is not hopeless, as the government has risen to the challenge and is making concerted efforts to secure the state.
Fanwo urged politicians in the state not to view the security concerns as an avenue for political advantage but to see it as a collective responsibility requiring the cooperation of all stakeholders.
He further stated that the security issues in some local government areas have necessitated prompt and strategic actions. According to him, security agencies in the state are being equipped with additional patrol vehicles and arms to enhance their operations. He also noted that local community hunters are being trained in arms handling to strengthen community-based security efforts.
“Kogi State remains one of the safest states in the country today, thanks to the coordinated efforts of Governor Ododo, the government, and the people working together to confront insecurity,” Fanwo said.
